Champion Hospitality Group Introduces Superette Saison, Brasserie GM Stephen Kelly

Champion Hospitality Group (CHG) has announced that it will re-open its downtown mall restaurant Brasserie Saison’s patio for dinner service beginning July 20, 2020. Stephen Kelly, recently of New York City’s Eleven Madison Park has joined the restaurant as general manager.

In addition, the restaurant group will open Superette Saison, a boutique takeaway market in the space adjacent to the restaurant, the former Verdigris retail space. CHG is partnering with Reid Dougherty, a familiar face to Brasserie regulars as the original bar director of the restaurant, on the Superette venture.

Brasserie’s downstairs space, The Coat Room will be reopened as late-night space once COVID-19 restrictions are no longer in place and it is safe to do so.

CHG principal and Champion Brewing Company owner Hunter Smith said, “It is a real coup for us to land Stephen Kelly for Brasserie, and we’re eager to incorporate his experience into the hospitality and friendly service that we’re known for at Brasserie Saison and as a group overall. The time is perfect for the Superette, which will allow customers to get a nice bottle of wine and a sandwich to go, while takeout is the order of the day, and beyond. We’re all eager for the patio reopening and to see our guests again soon.”

Kelly said, “I’m excited to join Brasserie Saison and the Champion team. My family and I have been visiting Charlottesville for many years and since it opened, we have made dining at Brasserie a tradition. When it came time to ask myself what the next step in my career and for my family would be, my mind kept going back to Charlottesville. There is so much for the residents of Charlottesville to be proud of, and it is the pride in their restaurants that draws me in. I believe that this city should be at the forefront of the national conversation of great food cities and we at CHG plan on making sure that is the case.”
