Champion Brewing Company is Virginia’s most progressive brewery, producing a wide variety of ales in two locations: our downtown Charlottesville tap room and our Belmont production facility. Constantly rotating taps and one-off beers in the tap room are served in a lively and fun environment, with games, an outdoor patio, and a casual menu from our kitchen in Charlottesville.
Hunter Smith is the owner of Champion Brewing Company and its retail arm, Champion Hospitality Group. Hunter grew up in the beverage business, working alongside his parents at Afton Mountain Vineyards, where he continues to have a role. Along with brewing and distributing beer and wine across the mid-Atlantic, Hunter believes in giving back to the community. He has donated tens of thousands of dollars to Waterboys, the signature initiative of the Chris Long Foundation, bringing clean water to East Africa. Hunter also serves on the boards of the Virginia Craft Brewers’ Guild, Piedmont Housing Alliance, and New Hill Development Corporation. Hunter lives in Charlottesville with his family.
Our production brewery known as the ‘missile factory’ produces our core and seasonal beers on a 30-barrel brewhouse, at a current operating capacity of 15,000 barrels per year. Our packaging is done in-house on a wild goose engineering 250 canning line. Our original tap room produces constantly changing and innovative seasonals, one-offs, and barrel-aged wild beers.
We support causes in our community that speak to us and impact the people we serve. Whether we’re raising donations through beer sales to help people in West Africa get clean drinking water or asking patrons to kick in a few dollars to support the local ballet troupe, we are here to contribute and lift up others while we work to make the world a better place.
